50 Dead, 53 Injured In Orlando Nightclub Shooting

first_imgJust one day after the shooting of “The Voice” singer Christina Grimmie at The Plaza Live Theater in Orlando, tragedy has once again struck the Florida city as news broke in the early morning with regards to a mass shooting at Pulse, a gay nightclub, that has left 50 dead, and at least 53 injured. According to reports, at around 2am, an officer responded to shooting outside of the club, and engaged the shooter.‘Voice’ Singer Christina Grimmie Shot And Killed At Orlando ConcertOrlando Police Chief John Mina and other officials said the shooter then ran into the nightclub, which turned into a hostage situation in which the shooter, identified as Omar Saddiqui Mateen, 29, of Fort Pierce, opened fire inside the club. “It appears he was organized and well-prepared,” detailing that the shooter had an assault-type weapon, a handgun and “some type of (other) device on him.”Police responded to the scene and a standoff ensued, with SWAT teams making the decision at 5am to rescue the hostages. Authorities broke down the door with an armored vehicle, assisting 30+ people escape the scene, at which point a shootout with Mateen broke out, who was shot and killed, but not before the worst mass shooting in U.S. history occurred.Mateen has been “on the radar” of U.S. officials, but was not under a specific investigation at the time of the shooting.
