Technicians and engineers at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida have identified the likely source of what caused heaters on a fuel line for space shuttle Endeavour’s auxiliary power unit-1 (APU-1) to fail on Friday, scrubbing the first launch attempt for the STS-134 mission. The failure appears to be a power problem within the aft load control assembly-2 (ALCA-2), a box of switches controlling power feeds.“That basically means the power is not getting out to the heaters that weren’t working on launch day,” said Space Shuttle Program Launch Integration Manager Mike Moses.The plan is to remove and replace the box, but that work and related testing will take several days to complete. Once the new box is installed, the team must verify it’s working properly — at least a two-day process — and perform forensics on the failed box.“We can tell you, pretty much, that it’s not going to be any earlier than (May 8),” Moses said. “We’re really not even setting the schedules today. There’s still a whole lot of short-term work that has to be done.”Endeavour’s six astronauts have returned to NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston for a few days of additional training before they report to Kennedy for the next launch attempt, and the crew’s families also are going to return home today. The launch team is backing out of launch countdown operations.
Kolkata: Police arrested a middle-aged man from Kanksa in West Burdwan on charges of duping his colleagues by using their credit or debit cards without their knowledge.For the past few months, officials of a private healthcare unit noticed that money was getting deducted from their bank accounts. But initially it did not draw attention as they failed to realise it immediately after the money got deducted from their bank accounts. During investigation, police have found out that the arrested persons had opted a unique modus operandi while using debit cards of his colleagues for shopping and even didn’t get caught. He used to wait for the times when his colleagues left their wallets or mobile phones on the desk. Taking the opportunity of the situation, he used to take out the debit card from the wallet and keep away the mobile phone so that they do not get to see balance alert messages. He used to buy goods using the debit card and the mobile phone was needed to enter the one time password (OTP). He also used to delete the messages from the mobile phones. Later, he used to keep the mobile phones at such a place in the office itself that its actual owner used to think that he had kept there by mistake and used to carry on with his work without suspecting anyone. Police initiated a probe after two three employees found that their money got deducted from their bank accounts.While investigating into the cases, police have suspected that someone from the same workplace was behind the incidents and finally the middl-eaged man was arrested.
Kolkata: Two factories were completed gutted in a fire that broke out at Chakundi in Dankuni on Sunday afternoon.Another factory located close to the incident spot was partly damaged. According to local residents, there is an abandoned detergent factory where the fire broke out around 12:30 pm on Sunday. When local residents saw thick black smoke billowing out of the factory, they informed police and fire brigade. But before the fire brigade could reach, the flames spread to an edible oil factory situated close to the detergent factory. As inflammable materials were stored in the two factories, fire spread fast. Immediately, firefighters started spraying water but they were not able to locate the source of fire. According to sources, despite firefighting system were installed at the edible oil factory, it did not work while dousing the fire. Also, none could locate the water reservoir which should be there on the factory premises. Apart from water, firefighters also used foam. By the evening, they were able to control the fire at the detergent factory. One firefighter started having difficulty in breathing due to thick smoke. He was taken to a local hospital. It is suspected that the fire occurred at the detergent factory due to short circuit. According to sources, fire brigade officials are mulling to take stringent action against the owner of the edible oil factory for not adhering tothe fire safety regulations.
