QPR boss says it was ‘touch and go’ whether LuaLua would return

first_img Follow West London Sport on TwitterFind us on Facebook Embed from Getty ImagesIan Holloway has told QPR’s website he believed it was “touch and go” whether Brighton would allow Kazenga LuaLua to return to Loftus Road on loan.West London Sport recently revealed that Rangers were set to re-sign the winger on loan until January. The deal was confirmed on Friday and LuaLua is available for the game against Sheffield Wednesday this weekend. He spent the second half of last season on loan with the R’s, making 11 appearances – nine of them as a substitute. He spent nearly two months of that loan spell out with ankle trouble but Holloway believes the 26-year-old has put his injury problems behind him.“I wasn’t actually sure it was going to be possible because he had such a good pre-season with Brighton and it was touch and go whether they were going to let him go out again,” the Rangers boss said.Embed from Getty Images“He is in a really good place after getting a very good pre-season under his belt, and this is a great opportunity for us.”Holloway has also suggested that he has brought LuaLua back to be a first-choice rather than squad player. He said: “Some of the times when we used him last season, he turned games for us and I would prefer him to do that from the start of matches, rather than as a sub.”LuaLua will wear the number 35 shirt and joined the squad for the trip to face Wednesday after his move was finalised.“It’s good to be back. I know the boys here, I know the manager, so this was a very easy decision for me,” he said.“I went back to Brighton to do pre-season and see how things would go, but in my mind I always wanted to come back to QPR.“My pre-season went well, but it’s about playing games. It’s not about me staying at Brighton because they are in the Premier League, I want to get out and play, and enjoy my football.“I am happy to be here and hopefully I can help the team.”See also:Ngbakoto’s goal takes QPR throughQPR stood up and were counted, says HollowayWashington tipped to be fit for Wednesday gameQPR set to re-sign LuaLua on loanQPR and Brentford to meet in Carabao CupQPR confirm LuaLua’s return on loan from BrightonSylla and Ngbakoto to miss Wednesday gamelast_img read more

MS Dhoni was never bullied as a kid. There is a very good reason too

first_imgHaving a passion for sports at a young age has its own perks. It keeps you fit, healthy, is a great career choice no matter what the sport is and apparently it also helps you to steer clear of bullies, it worked for MS Dhoni atleast. The former India skipper recently revealed that he was never bullied at a young age as he used to play with boys who were much older to him.   “I don’t think I was ever bullied. One of the reasons could be that often, people who are very small, thin or timid, you tend to get away without being bullied; if someone is very cute and cuddly, he/she also gets away with things. I was small and timid,” Dhoni told The Print.”Another reason could be that I used to play with boys that were much older to me, and they saw me as a younger brother. We lived in a colony and were only two or three of us that were of the same age group, the other children were at least five or six years older to us.”Playing cricket with older boys also helped Dhoni improve his game.”Maybe that is one of the reasons that I play cricket well, because I have always played cricket with people who were older than me, which meant that they had more power and they understood the game better. Playing with them made me better.Dhoni also said that even when he was playing domestic cricket at the under-16 and under-19 levels, he never faced any bullying in the dressing room.”So as far as bullying is concerned, I do not think we were bullied at any point of time. Even when we started playing cricket at the under-16 or under-19 level, we were never bullied. Often, it depends on the seniors – how the seniors are in the team environment affects the nature of the team, and the juniors also get groomed according to them. What is important is that you keep on passing the baton to the next generation.advertisementDhoni also condemned the act of bullying and said, “Bullying is not a thing that should happen. In a society, it does happen, but there are ways to deal with it. One of the effective ways is to pass on the culture of being against the concept of bullying, and the culture of being nice to people. That is what life is all about.”last_img read more

None better than Harendra Singh as India hockey coach: former captain Sandeep Singh

first_imgFormer captain Sandeep Singh on Wednesday slammed the frequent change of coaches in Indian hockey, asserting that there was none better for the job than the recently-removed Harendra Singh.Harendra was sacked as India coach earlier this month following a disappointing 2018 and offered another stint with the junior squad. He became the sixth coach to be sacked in as many years.”You can’t be changing coaches this frequently. The crucial Olympic qualifier [FIH Series Finals in June] is ahead of us and we should not be experimenting too much. I don’t think I have worked with a better coach than Harendra sir,” Sandeep said at the launch of Flickers Brothers hockey academy, his joint venture with brother Bikramjeet.”There are a few coaches [in India] who can coach at the highest level and Harendra paaji is one of them. He should have been given more time.”Any new coach takes about six months to adjust to the system and players also need time to understand his methods. The team doesn’t have that kind of time [ahead Olympic qualifiers],” he said.India have had a variety of foreign coaches and Harendra helming the national team was a rarity in recent times. But he could not even last 12 months after taking charge, following the team’s medal-less showing at the Commonwealth Games in April.Hockey India has invited fresh applications for the post and Sandeep, who was best known for his ferocious drag-flicks, feels an Indian coach will be most beneficial for the team.advertisement”There is no language barrier and more importantly, you don’t hesitate while interacting with an Indian coach. Indian coaches are strict on the field but off the field they take very good care of you,” he explained. The phenomenon of dropping players without giving them ample opportunities is another aspect that bogs down Indian coaches, said Sandeep.”In 2007-08, India and Belgium played a series in Chennai and we beat them easily though I was not a part of that team. If you look at the Belgium side, which won the World Cup last month, it had most of the players that played against India 10 years ago, while India had only one or two.”So continuity is important. Rupinder Pal Singh should have played the World Cup and Sardar Singh should have been allowed to retire post the World Cup,” said the 32-year-old.The biggest worry for the national team, according to Sandeep, is lack of world-class goalkeepers.”My biggest worry is when P R Sreejesh retires, who will be replace him? I don’t see anyone matching up to his standards. We have to prepare goalkeepers. Strikers and drag-flickers keep coming but not goalkeepers. I hope he plays for another five to seven years.”He concluded by saying that the head coach should be involved in selection matters as is the case with top foreign teams like the Netherlands and Germany.last_img read more

Story Highlights The Zones of Special Operations (ZOSOs) in Mount Salem, St James; and Denham Town in West Kingston will be extended by a further 60 days. The House of Representatives on Tuesday (February 5), approved two Resolutions for the extensions, which were moved by Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness. In his remarks, Mr. Holness noted that ZOSOs are long-term in nature and are not designed to just have a reduction in crime for 60 days.“The intention is that these communities will develop the leadership, the institutions, and the general environment of peace… that infrastructure and other kinds of development will be brought to these communities,” he pointed out.Mr. Holness informed the Lower House that both communities are now in the build phase.“In that phase you would see more development activities, rather than security-based activities. In both communities, it is evident that the Government has expended significant resources to ensure that their infrastructure is improved,” he said.Mr. Holness noted that a $184-million infrastructure improvement project for Denham Town was lunched on January 31, 2019.“Where we are now focused in both communities is on developing the leadership… as well as economic enablement and empowerment, assisting with grants and small loans to ensure that micro businesses can start to flourish in these areas,” the Prime Minister said.In addition, he informed that work has begun in Mount Salem to regularise settlements “in terms of titling and ensuring that the settlement there is orderly”.“What we see in the community are some small lanes, tracks and irregular plots. All of that will be addressed in this phase,” Mr. Holness said. The Law Reform (Zones of Special Operations) (Special Security and Community Development Measures) Act gives the Prime Minister power to declare an area a ZOSO in order to tackle increased crime and volatility. This is in consultation with the National Security Council. The Zone can only be established after the Police Commissioner and the Chief of Defence Staff make a request for such a declaration in writing to the Prime Minister.last_img read more

first_img As you can see, while in the short term gold and the euro seem alike (alternatives to the dollar), over the long term, the euro and the dollar are much more alike, while gold is a beast of an entirely different nature. The euro and the dollar take turns winning and losing against each other, but both are being debased, both are losing ground in the real world, and both have lost a lot of ground against gold. Now, which of these three would you like to trust your savings to? And which would you like to speculate on, going forward? The answers are crystal clear to us here at Casey Research, and they form the basis of our recommendations in our metals newsletters. Holding precious metals is an excellent way to preserve wealth. Investing in specific mining companies that are poised for growth and/or a takeover by a larger company can be a way to increase your wealth many times over. But not every junior mining company offers such promise… and timing is an essential key to successful investing with this strategy. Louis James, Casey Research’s metals and mining investment strategist, knows the ins and outs of the junior mining sector and has an uncanny ability to sniff out the best prospects. Learn how he does it – and more important, how you can put his expertise to work for you. One of the points we’ve made several times over the last year is that traders stuck in an old paradigm are frequently selling gold for the wrong reasons. The most egregious (or just plain silly) example is that gold often drops when the euro drops. This happens, not because there’s anything wrong with gold at such times, but because gold is priced in dollars. Instead of being thought of as a store of value in many investors’ minds, gold is viewed as a hedge against weakness in the dollar. But what are dollars priced in? Nothing, actually. Purchasing power is the underlying reality any “price” for dollars should get at, but that’s hard to measure – and the government can’t be trusted to report the truth about this. Unfortunately, in today’s world currencies are valued in many people’s minds by their “strength” in foreign exchange markets. Maybe that’s in part because nobody believes CPI statistics anymore. At any rate, the dollar is frequently valued in relation to its main competitor for reserve currency status. In other words, to many players in the market, the dollar is priced in euros. So when the euro gets slammed, the dollar rises, and this apparent “strength” of the dollar makes gold seem less attractive as a hedge, and gold sells off. You can see this inverse correlation between gold and the dollar – as well as a very tight correlation between gold and the euro – in this chart of recent price action. By Louis James, Casey Researchcenter_img The pattern is very strong. The inverse correlation between the dollar and the euro is extremely high, at -0.92. The inverse correlation between the dollar and gold is not as high, but still very strong: -0.78. And the correlation between gold and the euro is also very high: +0.74. In our view, this set of relationships clearly shows the error of those caught in this trading paradigm. The euro is not backed by gold, nor anything at all. It’s a floating abstraction, even more nebulous than the dollar. Gold is a solid commodity, the ultimate safe haven people all around the world turn to when the acceptance of paper currencies and other assets is in doubt. There’s no valid reason for gold to gain and lose value in concert with the euro – it’s merely an artifice of both gold and the euro being “not the dollar.” This point is clearly evident in a longer-term chart of the same variables as above.last_img read more
